Post Blood Transfusion

Sisters

Well Wednesday afternoon Ana did very well after the infusion of new blood. She had a bit of spunk back and her color returned to normal. The next day she tried to go back to school however it just proved to much for her and she came home shortly after being there nearly an hour. Thankfully the girls both had Friday off from school so it gave her an extra day to get back to normal. From what were told she can have possible side-effects for a couple weeks. So hopefully we won’t see any of those pop-up anytime soon.

Beyond that this was the first weekend since before Christmas that almost seemed normal. Today Ana had some friends from school stop by and they played the Wii for a couple hours making Mii’s of people in school. The things that 12 year olds find fun. I hid downstairs in my office shredding paper, looking rather busy. When Sara asked if I got a lot of work done, I replied with “Heck no I was keeping myself out of the girls way”.

I also wanted to say thank you to everyone who made donations over the weekend… It means a lot!

(The photo was taken when I picked up the girls from the Cancer center at St. Lukes.)

Ana’s Getting Blood Today…

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

Well after the near miss we had lasttime I decided I’d just not post about this until it was here.

Yesterday at Ana’s weekly blood count we were asked to hang out just incase they had another case of a child who had a CBC count that needed it rechecked and they hadn’t reached them until it they drove home over an hour and had to come back for a 2nd test.  So for the time being for the kids getting CBC’s are going to be asked to wait.  Plus I had no issue after last week in the  ER last week and her blood counts were already down from the day before and got the dose Antibiotic (Fortaz).

So hopefully this will give her a bit more energy again and her proper coloring back… This morning she didn’t look so good.

Nissa was pretty worried about her so we let her take the day off from school to go with Ana.

Ana’s been fairly ill this week…

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

Ana’s only made it to one day of school this week and has orders to not even try tomorrow.  Yesterday (Wednesday the 10th) was the worst she had a temp of 102.4.  If she still has a temp tomorrow I’ll have to run her down to children’s for additional testing to see where the infection may be coming from. Todays temp was a bit more reasonable and controlled with Tylenol.
The Wednesday afternoon/night in the ER she had another chest xray and 2 blood draws for a new CBC count.  They loaded her up with Zofran, IV fluids and an antibiotic’s and sent her home. Since the hospital is the last place she should be with the number of infections and other germs running around there.

She was rather funny at the ER once she was feeling better after the fluids… She was asking to leave she did not want to be there.  She also kept all the nurses and doctors up on what they needed to know to care for her.  She even told them the size needle used for accessing her port installed in her Chest to give her fluids.  She did get rather upset at the blood draw from her arm.  She quickly tried to stop them by saying that’s what she has the port for.  Then she got torqued off because Doctor Mortel ordered the arm draw to ensure the CBC counts were the same between the blood taken from her  port and the arm.
