Ana the bounce back girl… just in time for Chemo again.

March 20th, 2007

We’ll things have been a complete repeat of last month… One day she’s down LOW LOW low on her blood counts then a couple days later there back to decent levels.

At the moment she has staff at both Childrens Hospital and St. Lukes confused as to how she does it.  Normally when those Hemoglobin numbers start getting into the low to mid 7’s they keep going down and you get into  spot where she was in January needing blood.  So everyone was reading the paperwork for another transfusion this last week and amazingly her counts jumped back into the Mid range for being “ok” which was 8.6 on her hemoglobin counts and her platelets went from 62 thousand to 120 thousand or so.  And the second count where they went up were counted by hand which I guess is much more accurate than the computerized method.

The tooth fairy’s gonna cost me…

Needing this second count this week nearly made her miss another dentist appointment which she was suppose to have last month but her platelets were to low… The risk of bleeding while at the dentist was to great.  But Children’s has been pushing us to get her looked at by a dentist because of what the chemo drug she’s on does to teeth. So they told us to get a light cleaning above the gums and exam. Which went fine… Other than about 7 teeth that need to come out she’s in good shape.  Those teeth are baby’s that are being broken by the incoming adult teeth.  Which the dentist would have been more than happy to take out IF her platelets were in a more normal range.

More extra tests…kinda.

last Month Ana had her bi-monthly GFR test which measures kidney function and last month she was just at the low end of normal so Wednesday we have to do another test this month…  Which means a couple days in the Twin Cities again.  We wont find out the results of this test till Friday.

Lastly for today…

When Ana was asked by the nurse who took her blood on Friday for the CBC count at how her counts go back up they way they do… Ana Replied “it’s the 2 bags of microwave popcorn I eat every day”

BTW, She would eat 3 if we let her…

How have things been?

Ana’s been great lately.  We had Chemotherapy on the 26th and her GFR test on the 24th.  We may need to do another GFR test this month we haven’t heard yet if we will be or not. The results from the test we just had is that her kidney function is just on the borderline of normal and below normal.

Her blood counts before chemo were great! I’m hoping tomorrows counts go well too.
She went back on her steroids after chemo for 5 days and that was nice to see her actually want to eat after chemo! Even though we did find out that she only likes foods that are white or light in color, soft foods like mashed potato’s and Chocolate.

Other than that she’s on a new stimulant to keep her going though the day, heck she’s had a lot of time off lately with winter break, time off of school from chemo and the blizzard we had last week.  One of the days she slept in till 2pm, so she didn’t take the stimulant as I didn’t want her up till 3am and she was ready to go back to bed by 8pm that night! And she’s not an active girl, she spent the day watching TV and not much else.

What happen to the Google ads???

February 18th, 2007

Some of you may notice the ads gone from the top of the page and the side bar…
Someone last week went nuts clicking on the ads and got this site banned from the adsense program.

Am I upset? Yes and no… it was a convent way to earn a little bit of money while helping out the advertisers.  Just because I had 2 spots with ads didn’t mean we were racking in the revenue.  In the 4-5 months we had their ads on the site it generated about $20 a month.
Can I get the ads back?
For good reason Google is very heavy handed about this topic… Much of their fortune is based on advertising and it must be kept “pure” from tamppering. However, I expect I’ll go though the appeal process but I’m so short on time this week with the kids home from school, work and 2x trips to St. Paul for her I doubt we’ll see the ads back anytime soon or at all.

So please keep those donations coming! PayPal is a safe and convenient way to help!
